On February 1992, it was announced that Pepsi would once again sponsor Michael when he took to the road with 20 million to cover the forthcoming Dangerous Tour.
The Dangerous World Tour, his second Solo Tour, began on June 27, 1992, and finished on November 11, 1993.
Prior to the Tour, Michael announced all profits would be donated to various charities, most notably his own Heal The World Foundation, named after one of his favorite hit singles from the new album, the inspirational Heal The World.
Michael created the Heal the World Foundation in 1992, to improve the conditions for children throughout the world. The organization brought underprivileged children to his Neverland Ranch to spend a day to play on the park rides, watch movies in the theater, enjoy all the animals in the petting zoo, ride the train, and have the choice of any candy or sweet treat you can imagine and popcorn too….a grand time! Michael went to great lengths to ensure the best care and safety of all the children while they were there. All the rides and everything there was wheelchair accessible. Everything was modified for physically challenged children. In the theater, there were specially designed rooms with glass walls furnished with hospital beds set up so that the critically ill children could lay in bed and watch the movies.
Michael always had such a profound commitment to children!

“Our children are the most beautiful, most sweet, most treasured of our creations. And yet, every minute at least 28 children die. Today our children are at risk of being killed by diseases and by the violence of war, guns, abuse and neglect. Children have few rights and no-one to speak for them. They have no voice in our world. God and nature has blessed me with a voice. Now I want to use it to help children speak for themselves. I have founded the Heal The World Foundation to be the voice of the voiceless: The Children.”

Heal the World Foundation has 3 Main Goals: ♥ ♥ ♥
1. To make the safety, health and development of children the world’s highest priority.
2. To be the voice of the voiceless by focusing world-wide attention on the needs and rights of all children and by providing children with a forum to express their unique vision for healing the world.
3. To help create a world where children will live without violence, where children will be free of disease and have healthy lives, and where each generation will have the opportunity to grow into fully participating members of the world community.
The Foundation also sent millions of dollars to help children threatened by war and disease all over the world — such as airlifting 43 tons of medical supplies, blankets, winter clothing and shoes onto a DC-8 cargo jet bound for the children of Sarajevo in Bosnia-Herzegovina, a war zone in the former Yugoslavia. Also initiating drug and alcohol abuse education, and donating millions of dollars to programs and other charities for the care of suffering children. In one instance, Michael directed full payment for a Hungarian child’s (Bela Farkas) liver transplant.

On October 1, 1992 Michael performs at the Complexul Sportiv National Stadium in Bucharest, Romania before a capacity crowd of 70,000 — with an additional 20,000 police and troops in attendance!
Tickets sell for half the usual price, but this is still more than a third of the average monthly salary in Romania.
The country has never seen anything like it and many of the older members of the audience — used to more placid entertainment — are bewildered. It was a unique moment for Romania emerging from the darkness of communism, a concert in which many did not even dare to dream….for some the dream was fulfilled.
The concert, Michael’s only show in a former Iron Curtain country, is attended by the Prime Minister (who presents Michael with a ceremonial uniform) and other political figures.
One senate spokesman says, “This event is worth 10 years of diplomacy with the West. At last the West will recognize us as a proper European country and not a strange name in an atlas”.
Andy Morahan, who directed Give In To Me, uses more than 14 camera operators to tape the concert, which is broadcast live on radio and TV to 61 countries around the world, including21 in Europe.
Michael chose this particular concert to be televised because the whole point of his Dangerous Tour was to raise funds and awareness for his Heal The World Foundation.
Bucharest, with its notorious orphanages, was the ideal spring-board to officially propel the Heal The World Foundation, and to point out the predicament of the Romanian babies.
Michael decided to stay in the beautiful Ceausescu’s Palace at Snagov located on Lake Snagov40 kilometers from Bucharest. It was built in the ’30’s by Prince Nicholas, the younger brother of Charles II and greatly expanded in the ’80’s by the Ceausescu family.

For the Dangerous Tour the visual effects were as impressive as the Music. The Tour kicks off at the Olympic Stadium in Munich, Germany.
Michael plays to a sell-out crowd of 72,000 ecstatic fans, who see him perform 18 numbers, including 4 songs from his new album. Michael made a spectacular entry, catapulted onto the empty stage in a move dubbed the ‘toaster’ accompanied by pyrotechnics. Thousands of fans went wild chanting his name as he popped up out of the swirling smoke, seemingly from nowhere. There he stood, for what seemed like forever, in all his stylistic divine glory: Aviator shades, military jacket, high-water pants, white socks, black loafers, a black arm band and one white arm guard.
The exit topped that, Michael zooming out of the auditorium by jet pack. Or, at least, that was how it appeared. In fact, it was an illusion devised by the celebrated Magician David Copperfield. The close of the show hit’s the headlines.
On stage, during the Dangerous Tour, a highlight — for one lucky lady — was Michael’s rendition of She’s Out Of My Life. A girl would be plucked from the audience to share the stage with Michael during the performance of this moving ballad that has been a set-list favorite for over a decade.
Dancing close to Michael while being serenaded was often too much for the chosen few. They wanted to hold him as tightly as possible, and he had to be very handy with the microphone in order to deliver the vocals. No doubt the girls pinched themselves when they retook their seats, and no doubt their friends couldn’t wait to touch the hand of someone who had touched Michael!

Concerts on the Tour enjoyed by around 3.5 million fans!!
In a moment of pure business genius, Michael sold the broadcast film rights of his Bucharest concert, Michael’s first behind the Iron Curtain, to the American Cable Station, HBO (Home Box Office) for around $20 million — the most ever paid for a Pop concert, making it the largest contract ever for a one-time concert transmitted on TV.
The concert first screened in the States on October 10, 1992. The special receives the highest TV ratings in the history of HBO — also screened in at least 61 other countries.
Released on DVD, as part of The Ultimate Collection Box-set, in 2004, and as a stand alone DVD titled Live In Bucharest: the Dangerous Tour, the following year — however, as well as Bucharest, the DVD also featured footage shot at concerts in London and Madrid.

One of Michael’s most acclaimed performances came on January 31, 1993, during the halftime show at the 27th Super Bowl at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, CA.
In previous years, the halftime show had several performers. But 1993 would be different — for the first time in its history, a solo performance!
Michael carried the entire halftime show in one of the most prestigious slots in show business, with an electrifying performance rocking the Pasadena Rose Bowl to the rafters! It was broadcast to 1 billion viewers in 70 countries!!
The program drew the largest viewing audience in the history of American television!!! Michael donated his fee to his Heal The World Foundation. ♥
Before an audience of 100,000, Michael was tossed onto the stage as fireworks exploded behind him. As he landed on the canvas, he maintained a motionless “clenched fist, standing statue stance” — one of his Dangerous poses. He remained completely still for several minutes while the crowd cheered, then slowly removed his sunglasses, threw them away and began to perform.
Michael performs a medley of Jam, Billie Jean, Black Or White and Heal The World.
The finale, Heal The World, included 3,500 local children singing and a video montage of Michael’s global humanitarian efforts.
It was the first Super Bowl in history where the audience figures increased during the half-time show, and was viewed by 135 million Americans, and as many as a billion people worldwide!!
In the 2 weeks following the Super Bowl performance, Michael‘s album Dangerous, moves up the Pop albums chart an amazing 106 places to No. 41. The sales momentum continues as the album rises another 31 places to No. 10 on the Pop albums chart, more than a year after its release.

‘I got the call to produce some tracks on Michael Jackson’s Dangerous around1991,’ said Teddy Riley, who admitted he felt pressure. ‘I didn’t want to be the one to fail Michael, and I’m so grateful it didn’t…I brought R&B back to Michael in its barest form; R&B and funk. We recorded it in California, at Record One, and then we ended up in Larrabee Studios. I was using a lot of vintage stuff to get the sound we needed. ‘He was an inspiration to work with,’ said Riley.’ I kinda learned his way of working and stuck with that formula — so he changed the way I worked on production with artists…it’s difficult to pick out the strongest elements on the album. Is it my music or his lyrics? In the end, I’d say it’s both. There was nothing weaker than the other. That’s why it was such a perfect album and such a big seller.’

From Bruce Swedien, Michael’s ♪ Recording Engineer ♪ ~
The following little story perfectly illustrates what I mean when I say, “I’ll do anything in the music recording studio they’ll let me do!” My studio pal Rene Moore and I composed and recorded a piece of music for Rene’s album on Motown Records. Rene and I have composed the music for and produced several projects together.
We had been experimenting with the ‘looping’ of old, but extremely high-energy drum and rhythm tracks. Now, that is a great idea, but many recording people have been doing exactly that for quite some time. However, our idea was to take the fantastic feel of these vintage drum performances, and then layer them with new, very contemporary sounds on parallel tracks to bring the sonic value of the groove up to date.
We worked on one of these ideas for some time too on a song to use on Rene’s own album on Motown Records. I even used some sleigh bells from my grandfather’s farm in Minnesota, as a rhythm element!
The song was really beginning to shape up, and one afternoon we both looked at each other and Rene said, “Maybe we had better play this for Michael!” We did, and Michael absolutely loved the concept!
That was how “Jam” from the Michael Jackson album Dangerous came to life. “Jam” was composed by Rene Moore, Bruce Swedien, Michael Jackson, and Teddy Riley.

Written and composed by Michael, with rap lyrics by Bill Bottrell.
A catchy modest celebration of colorblindness and racial harmony, features a bright pop melody surrounded by swirling hard rock guitars played by Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.
It’s developed from a track which was intended for the BAD album. In 1989, when Michael began work on Dangerous, he asked Bill Bottrell, who wrote the rap lyrics and co-produced the track, to dig it out of the vault.
Opening guitar first recorded at Michael’s Encino home. ‘That piece of music, the beginning part that Slash plays on, was recorded at Michael’s house,’ confirmed Bottrell. ‘Michael asked me to dig it out of the vault in August of 1989. He had in mind to use it as the intro to Black Or White — it took a long time before we got Slash on it.’

On November 14, Michael aired the song’s 11-minute short film.
Michael reunited with Thriller director John Landis for this opus featuring Michael dancing around the world and the technological innovation of face-morphing.
It features Macauley Culkin, Michael’s niece, Brandi, Bart Simpson, George Wendt, who plays ‘Norm’ in Cheers, and rapper, Heavy D.
Fox Network, BET and MTV simultaneously premiere the short film for Black Or White.
MTV, who declare it Michael Jackson Week and give the video the highest airplay to date. The video is seen in 27 countries around the world by approximately 500 million people.
24 hours after the premiere, TV stations around the world, but especially in America, receive complaints (both of delight and dismay) regarding the video’s somewhat violent 4-minute conclusion, which causes widespread controversy.
Michael’s publicist says that Michael’s dance sequence is meant to portray his interpretation of the panther’s wild and animalistic behavior. Michael succumbs to public pressure by agreeing to edit out the final 4 minutes of the video, and issues a statement.

I’ve always tried to be a good role model and, therefore, have made these changes to avoid any possibility of adversely affecting any individual’s behavior. I deeply regret any pain or hurt that the final segment of Black Or White has caused children, their parents or other viewers.
Black Or White will become Michael’s highest-ever debuting single of any of his previous albums. It becomes his biggest hit since Billie Jean, staying on top of the pop charts for 7 consecutive weeks.
Michael became the first artist to have No. 1 pop hits in 3 different decades: the ’70’s, ’80’s, and ’90’s.!!!

Michael: The main thing that I hate most is ignorance, like the prejudice problems of America. I know it is worse in some other countries. But I wish I could borrow, like from Venezuela or Trinidad, the real love of color-blinded people and bring it to America.
Ebony: You are making some observations with intense feelings. Please continue.
Michael: I’m prejudiced against ignorance. That’s what I’m mainly prejudiced against. It’s only ignorance and it’s taught, because it’s not genetic at all.
The little children in those (countries) aren’t prejudiced. I would like for you to put this in quotes, too. I’m really not a prejudiced person at all. I believe that people should think about God more and creation…Look at the many wonders inside the human body — the different colors of organs, colors of blood — and all these different colors do a different thing in the human body.
It’s the most incredible system in the world; it makes an incredible building, the human being. And if this can happen with the human body, why can’t we do it as people? And that’s how I feel. And that’s why I wish the world could do more. That’s the only thing I hate. I really do.
Ebony: What you have just said is not only compassionate but compelling. How do you communicate such feelings since you don’t make public appearances to express your views in public forums?
Michael: I try to write, put it in song. Put it in dance. Put it in my art to teach the world. If politicians can’t do it, I want to do it. We have to do it. Artists, put it in paintings. Poets, put it in poems, novels. That’s what we have to do. And I think it’s so important to save the world.

Released instead of Give In To Me in the States, following Michael’s brief ‘beat box’ rendition during his televised interview with O. — what Bruce Swedien, referring to Michael’s vocal ‘beat box’ percussion, called his ‘how now brown cow’.
Following Michael’s acappella rendition of Who Is it during the O interview, US radio stations are swamped with requests for the single. Sony react quickly and decide to release Who Is It instead of Give In To Me as the next single from the Dangerous album. In order to increase public interest in the song Sony, in collaboration with MTV, devise a competition whereby entrants are to create a video to Michael’s Who Is It.

World premiere of promo short film, directed by David Fincher, on BBC2’s Def II show in the UK on July 13, 1992.
While the video clips showcasing Michael’s performance is the best-known part, the actual video followed the storyline of a cheating girlfriend working for an escort agency.
Michael was unhappy with the original edit of the short film, and had it re-edited — the first version was withdrawn, and the later version shown and included on his home video, Dangerous — the Short Films.

Slash, at the time, was just leaving for Africa, so he and Michael managed to work it out so they could record Slash’s contribution when he returned from Africa. ‘I basically went in and started to play — that was it, ’ said Slash. ‘Michael just wanted whatever was in my style.
